Patients in need of cataract surgery in the Oconto and Marinette areas now have the option of dropless cataract surgery, a procedure that largely reduces or eliminates the need for several daily drops following surgery.
Dropless cataract surgery has been offered by Tower Clock Eye Center in Green Bay for some time, and the clinic recently got approval to offer the technique at Oconto hospital.
“The dropless procedure was really developed for added patient convenience, and we offer it with our philosophy of putting patients’ needs first,” said Kurt Schwiesow, MD, ophthalmologist at Tower Clock Eye Center. “It is a highly-effective, hassle-free way of administering all the medication the eye needs after surgery. It’s one less step patients need to be concerned with, the emphasis should be on recovery, not eye drops.”
Dropless cataract surgery involves a one-time injection of medication at the time of surgery. It only takes a moment, and saves patients both time and money. Patients are screened for eligibility and if they are candidates, offered the dropless option.
“We’re excited to bring the convenience of the dropless technique to patients in the northern tiers of our patient base, its ideal for the vast majority of our patients,” added Schwiesow.
