Tower Clock Eye Center, in keeping with the modern standard of care, is the first ophthalmology practice in Northeast Wisconsin to offer IV-free cataract surgery. The practice of IV-free cataract surgery is common in many ophthalmology centers across the U.S., and has widespread use in both Europe and Canada.
IVs often cause increased levels of anxiety in patients, sometimes causing even more than the surgery itself. IV-free cataract surgery reduces much of the anxiety associated with surgery. After a screening process, most patients make good candidates and are eligible for the IV-free procedure.
IV-free cataract surgery offer patients:
Reduced anxiety
Faster medication absorption
Medication leaves the system sooner
No bruising
No IV-related pain
Reduced pre-operative times
More one-on-one time with your doctor
The same safety measures as traditional IVs
The same medication administered through an IV is given in the form of a lozenge that goes under the patient’s tongue. The medication slowly dissolves and begins working in minutes. The medication is as effective as an IV, and takes the edge off allowing a patient to relax before and during surgery.
